LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN REGIONAL SUMMIT ON DISABILITIES – 2024
The Latin American and Caribbean Regional Summit on Disability is presented as a historic milestone for RIADIS, consolidating regional efforts in preparation for the 2025 World Summit on Disability. This event will take place from December 9 to 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and brings together organizations, governments, academia and civil society to build together an inclusive and equitable agenda for people with disabilities in the region.

The summit represents a unique opportunity to define policies, consolidate commitments and strengthen collaboration networks in four key areas: inclusive education, decent employment, climate impact and disaster risk management, and social protection. These themes have been selected through consultations with grassroots organizations and prioritize the strengthening of rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in the region.
The summit planning includes three days of intensive activities: discussion panels, negotiation tables and collaborative sessions in which representatives from different sectors will contribute their experiences and proposals. This dialogue seeks to create a final document with concrete commitments, which will be presented at the World Summit as a joint declaration of the Latin American and Caribbean region.
The thematic axes of the summit address the most urgent challenges for people with disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Each of them – inclusive education, decent and sustainable employment, climate impact and disaster risk management, and social protection – has been carefully selected based on consultations with grassroots organizations in the region. These themes seek to ensure access to educational opportunities, improve working conditions, promote resilience to disasters and strengthen social protection, especially for those in the most vulnerable situations. Together, these axes will promote a comprehensive vision of inclusion and social justice, reflecting the regional commitment to eliminate structural barriers and move towards a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
